Why bother with Bing right now?
When most people think of search in Australia, they think of Google — and yes, its market share is overwhelming. But there are a few solid reasons not to ignore Microsoft Bing.
- Bing is the default search on Edge, the built-in browser on Windows PCs. Plenty of customers search from work or government computers.
- Microsoft Copilot and ChatGPT search draw on Bing's data. In the age of AI search, showing up on Bing can mean showing up in AI answers.
- Most competitors completely ignore Bing, so a little effort goes a long way toward ranking well.
You really only need to do two things
1. Set up Bing Webmaster Tools
Add your site to Bing Webmaster Tools. If you already use Google Search Console, you can link the accounts and import your site and sitemap in one go — it takes about five minutes. Afterwards you can see which keywords bring visitors and whether your pages are indexed.
2. List on Bing Places
If you're a local business, add your name, address, opening hours, phone number and photos to Bing Places for Business. If you already have a Google Business Profile, you can import the details directly. Your shop will then appear on Bing Maps and Bing search.
Keep your details identical everywhere
Make sure your name, address and phone number (NAP) are exactly the same across Google, Bing, Apple Maps and any directories. Inconsistent details confuse search engines and hurt your rankings.
Think of Bing as a free extra channel for winning customers — a low-effort way to catch people you'd otherwise miss.
