Why do you need a testimonials page?
When a new customer discovers your business for the first time, they're really asking one thing: "Is this place actually any good?" No matter how much you say "we're great," it's hard for them to believe. But a review from a real customer is a different story.
Where Google reviews are star ratings and short comments, a testimonials page on your website is a stage of trust that you curate yourself. Pick your best reviews and pair them with a photo, a name and some context, and they become far more persuasive.
3 elements of a great testimonials page
- Specificity: "It was good" is weak; "I ordered a first-birthday cake and my little one absolutely loved it" is powerful because it paints a picture.
- Credibility: Include the reviewer's name (initials are fine), a photo, and their job or suburb to make it feel genuine.
- Variety: If you run a Korean restaurant, mix reviews from family gatherings, work dinners and solo diners.
Practical ways to collect testimonials
- Add a short review-request link to your thank-you SMS or email after payment
- Put up a QR code in-store so customers can leave feedback on the spot
- Move great comments from Google or Instagram onto your website with permission
- Politely ask your regulars directly
A word of caution
In Australia, fake reviews are illegal (under ACCC rules). Only use genuine reviews from real customers, and never make up or exaggerate content. Trust is very hard to rebuild once it's broken.
