Why List Your Business in Online Directories?
Google search isn't the only way customers find you. In Australia, directory sites like TrueLocal, Yelp, Yellow Pages, and Hotfrog are widely used, and within the Korean community, boards like Hojunara are popular too. Listing your business on these platforms offers two benefits.
- More exposure: Customers can find you directly through directories without going through Google.
- Stronger local SEO: When consistent business information appears across multiple sites, Google recognises you as a trustworthy, real business.
NAP Consistency Is Key
The most important thing in directory listings is your NAP — Name, Address, and Phone number. These three must appear identically across every site.
For example, if one site says 'Unit 5/123 Pitt St' and another says '5/123 Pitt Street', Google may treat them as two different businesses. Standardise the following:
- Business name (exact spelling and spacing)
- Address format (Unit, Street, Suburb, State, Postcode)
- Phone number format (e.g. (02) 1234 5678)

- Apple Maps / Bing Places — for iPhone and Edge users
- TrueLocal, Yelp, Yellow Pages, Hotfrog — leading Australian directories
- Industry-specific sites — e.g. Zomato and TripAdvisor for restaurants, booking platforms for salons
- Korean community boards — direct traffic from Korean customers
Don't Forget Ongoing Management
If your hours change or you relocate, you must update every directory. An outdated phone number or a closed address will cost you customers and lower your Google trust. Keeping a spreadsheet of your listings and login details makes management much easier.
