The Secret to Readable Websites: Web Typography Guide

Why Do Fonts Affect Your Sales?

The first thing a customer does on your website is read. Your menu, prices, About page and booking details are all delivered through text. But if the type is too small, the line spacing feels cramped, or your Korean and English fonts clash, visitors get tired before they even take anything in — and they leave.

Well-organised typography, on the other hand, quietly says "this business is tidy and trustworthy." That matters even more for Korean businesses in Australia juggling both Korean and English.

The Basics of a Readable Website

  • Body text at least 16px: comfortable to read on mobile without zooming.
  • Line height of 1.5–1.7: tightly packed text is hard to read. White space is readability.
  • Keep line length reasonable: on desktop, lines that stretch the full screen tire the eyes.
  • No more than two fonts: one for headings, one for body is plenty. More fonts just look busy.

Choosing Korean and English Fonts

For Korean, free web fonts like Noto Sans KR or Pretendard are clean and reliable. For English, Inter, Roboto and Open Sans pair nicely with them.

Watch out for loading speed. Importing too many font weights slows your site down, so only load the weights you actually use (e.g. regular and bold). Also keep enough contrast with your brand colours — avoid light grey text that's hard to read.

Small Details Build Trust

Make a clear size difference between headings and body text, and only bold what truly matters. If everything is emphasised, nothing is. Following these simple rules alone can dramatically improve how your site feels.
